Techniques of Soil Improvement

Image
Soilimprovement is to improve its engineering performance such as strength, reduced compressibility, reduced permeability, or improved ground water condition. There are various techniques used for the improvement of the soil based on the construction activity and type of soil. The soil improvement techniques are the following. Ø   Surface Compaction: This is process to make soil densify. Any soft and loose site needs a compacted base for lying the structure. All conventional rollers like smooth wheel, rubber-tyred, sheep foot, vibratory and grid rollers can be used. Ø   Drainage Methods: When the water presence increase that will create pore water pressure and decrease the shear strength so ground water has to be controlled. Heavy inflow of water can cause erosion. So certain methods will have to be adopted to control ground water. Ø   Vibration Methods: Vibration methods can be effectively used for rapid densification of saturated non-cohesive soils. Some of t
