Design of Concrete structure for Durability

Image
Durability depends on permeability hence it is necessary to control parameters affecting permeability. To make concrete durable best cementitious material should be used. To lower permeability, Water-cement ratio should be lowered and that will increase durability. Durability is the ability of the structure to withstand weathering actions, abrasion, chemical attacks, or any other forms of concrete deterioration. Concrete cover is responsible for protecting steel bars from detrimental influences of carbonation, chloride, fire, and other external hazards; that is why adequate concrete cover thickness is crucial to maintain concrete durability. While designing cover should not be exceeded 2.5 times the diameter of the reinforcing bar. It is necessary to control the crack to protect steel rebar against corrosion. This crack is controlled by reducing shrinkage, and distributing the reinforcement over the zone of maximum concrete tension, uniformly, and using smaller diam

#Vastu For Home – Puja Room

Image
Now, lts understand how Puja room should be?   We know that Puja room is the most auspicious room in the house. Our all worship we are doing there and we keep our religious texts, idols there so it should be protected from negative energy. And Puja room will attract and bring positive energy in the house. As per vastu North-East direction is best for Puja room. Puja room should be on the ground floor. In the big factories and homes, Puja room should be placed in the centre that is very auspicious. Idols should put in East or West direction in Puja room. High quality two shutter wood door should be kept for the prayer room. White or light yellow coloured marble work in prayer room makes it more auspicious. Puja Room can have doors and windows in north or east walls. If the Puja room is in pyramid shape it is very auspicious. It is good to use white and yellow colour for Puja room. Place the idols a few inches (at least an inch) away from wall. If the prayer are

#Road Construction – Soil Stabilization

Image
It is important to have a smooth surface and stabilize soil in road construction so that erosion can be prevented. Selection of stabilization technique should be selected to achieve good soil properties. This selection depends on many factors such as types of soil to be stabilized, Availability of stabilizing materials, Availability of construction equipment, Environmental conditions of that area, Structure of pavement, Volume and distribution of traffic, Period of project, Budget of project. All this factors to be checked to select stabilization method. Mix design is as important as other factors. Mix design should be done in such a way that great durability and stability can be obtained. Which methods are we using for mix design will also play a major role for stabilization. Additives are added to the mix for meeting the requirements but this will increase cost. Thickness of stabilized soil layer is again an important factor and design of that is less remarkable i

#Good Construction Practices – Terrazzo floors

Image
Terrazzo is described as a composite material, poured in place or prefabricated for precast terrazzo which is used for flooring, base, walls, stair treads, countertops, and other custom products. Classic terrazzo is a mixture of marble fragments, called the aggregate, and a cementitious binding agent, called the matrix.  It is resilient and can be used inside and outside, and it can be cast in place or laid in manufactured tiles. Terrazzo adds a luxurious component to both interior and exterior designs and can be used in  truly innovative, sustainable ways , yet architects often don’t choose it because it can be expensive and difficult to detail. Dividers used in terrazzo floors must be located directly over concrete joints, which should occur a maximum of three times the depth of the concrete in inches. Concrete joints should also be detailed to run off all corridor intersections and corners and never be spaced more than 1.5 times the width of the concrete pour.
